With Thomas Partey and Jorginho’s futures unknown, the Gunners were reportedly on the verge of activating Zubimendi’s £51 million release clause.
Real Madrid is reportedly having more talks regarding a move for the 26-year-old, though, according to The Athletic.
Madrid wants to bolster their team with a center-back and a midfield player.
They are also interested in Trent Alexander-Arnold, who is available from Liverpool on a free transfer.
Despite being linked to Liverpool in the past, Zubimendi decided to remain at Real Sociedad.
The race to sign Zubimendi is expected to heat up in the upcoming months due to interest from both Arsenal and Real Madrid.
