Muhammadu Yahaya, the governor of Gombe State, has given his approval for the state’s civil service to hire 109 substantive directors.
Twenty-three members of the administrative cadre make up the newly appointed directors, with the remaining members being selected from a variety of professional cadres in various ministries, departments, and agencies.
“The appointments followed a rigorous, merit-based selection process aimed at ensuring only the most competent officers occupy the top echelon within the service,” said Mrs. Rabi Jimeta, chairperson of the Gombe State Civil Service Commission, who delivered the governor’s approval on Friday.
Recall that as part of his administration’s commitment to bolstering the civil service and improving governance, Governor Yahaya authorized the appointment of 102 substantive directors in 2021, including 31 from the administrative cadre and 71 from other professional cadres.
A capacity-building workshop, a written test, and a Computer-Based Test (CBT) were all part of the selection process for 172 Deputy Directors from a variety of administrative and professional cadres, she continued.
“In accordance with established civil service regulations, the final selection was made based on performance, experience, and dedication to duty.”
Jimeta stressed the need for increased vigor, professionalism, and dedication to service delivery, saying that “to whom much is given, much is expected.” She also urged the recently appointed directors to view their promotion as a summons to greater duty.
The chairperson noted that the current administration has remained steadfast in civil service reform agenda, aimed at repositioning the sector for greater efficiency, productivity, and service delivery.
“His administration has consistently emphasized capacity building, merit-based promotions, and digital transformation to ensure a modern and effective civil service that meets the needs of the people of Gombe State.
“The appointment of the 109 directors is expected to further strengthen the state’s bureaucratic structure,” Jimeta added.
