Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, congratulated African Development Bank President, Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, on his 65th birthday.

Abiodun praised Adesina as an economic visionary whose contributions have significantly influenced Africa’s development.

In a statement issued in Abeokuta on Thursday, the Ogun governor noted Adesina’s remarkable journey since taking over the AfDB in 20.

The governor emphasized that Adesina’s leadership has not only improved the bank’s reputation, but has also strengthened its position as a critical institution dedicated to the economic development of African countries.

“Born on February 6, 1960, Adesina’s brilliant career in economics and development has been distinguished by his steadfast dedication to the cause of African prosperity.

His election as President of the AfDB in 2015, followed by his re-election in 2020, demonstrates member countries’ trust in his vision and talents.

Inspiring others to pursue excellence and cultivating a sense of unity among African nations, Dr. Adesina epitomizes leadership, he said.

With the words, “His immense contributions toward the economic emancipation of our continent have not only elevated Nigeria’s standing on the global stage but have also served as an inspiration for many,” the governor recognized Adesina’s reputation as a distinguished ambassador for Nigeria.

Adesina himself stated that “in our quest for sustainable development, we must invest in our people, create jobs, and ensure that no one is left behind.”

Abiodun believes that the African Development Bank’s focus on eradicating poverty and promoting sustainable development has led to policy decisions that align with the continent’s needs.

He is confident that under Dr. Adesina’s leadership, the AfDB will continue to drive positive changes for the continent.
