General Kunle Togun (RTD), the former chairman of the western Nigerian Security Network, commonly known as Amotekun, Oyo State, emphasized that Yoruba land is currently at risk and endangered in a live interview with States Affairs hosted by Edmund Obilo.

According to General Kunle, the bandits—unknown gunmen, kidnappers, and Fulani herdmen—have fully seized Yoruba land.

“Who are the people doing the kidnapping? They referred to them as bandits, he said.

Are they in our forest? Edmund asked in response.

General Kunle responded that “the entire yoruba lands are occupied with them.”

Are we under threat in southwest?

General Kunle responded “We are still there.” He clarified that the bandits were roughly two kilometres from Governor Makine’s location when he went on retreat.

“The entire Ibarapa and Oke Ogun are saturated with those people,” he added.

They’re in the forest with Gun.
What do they want?

“They have said it, that Allah has given the land of Nigeria as their inheritance, that’s why they are all over.”

“I live in Saki, they can’t come and attack me, they’re coming out, kidnapping people and taking ransom.”

General Kunle further explained that there is an invasion, and the government is the only entity capable of stopping it. The bandits are already being bombed by the military, but not in the southwest. The bandits have already arrived and are hurrying southwest.

Did you see them in the forest?

He clarified that the hunters spotted bandits (fulani herdmen) in the jungle when they were abducted. We warned the hunters to exercise caution since no one would support them if they killed. “If they kill, who will back them up? He stated.

Concerns regarding the security of yoruba territory have also been voiced by southwest governors, Aareonakakanfo Gani Adams, and a few other Yoruba leaders.

According to IREPORT247NEW report on January 8, Governors in the southwest were urged by Gani Adams, the Aareonakakanfo of Yorubaland, to exercise vigilance in safeguarding the area after Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde voiced concern about the inflow of bandits from the North-West.

According to Gani, the alarm raised by the Oyo governor was real and needed urgent attention. Reiterating that insecurity has been a significant problem in the nation, Gani encouraged the South West governors to heed the warning in a statement issued by his Special Assistant on Media, Mr. Kehinde Aderemi.

He said, “The alarm raised by Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State was a wake-up call for all the governors in the South West. I raised similar alarm last year and nothing was done and it is sad that up to the present time nothing has really changed, except that insecurity is increasing by the day.

“The South West Security Stakeholders Group, SSSG, and a few others under my leadership have been doing their best in ensuring that the South West region is safe.
