The retirement age for physicians and other healthcare professionals has been raised from 60 to 65 by President Bola Tinubu.

This was revealed in a statement released in Lagos on Wednesday by Dr. Mannir Bature, the National Publicity Secretary of the Nigerian Medical Association.

According to Dr. Bature, the Office of the Head of Service has instructed Prof. Muhammad Pate, the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, to formally submit the clearance to the Council on Establishment for finalization.

In a high-level meeting with the NMA President, Prof. Bala Audu, and important health sector stakeholders, he said Pate explained the policy change.

The Joint Health Sector Unions, the National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives, and the leadership of the Medical and Dental Consultants Association of Nigeria were also present.

The arrears resulting from the Consolidated Medical Salary Structure adjustment are scheduled to be paid, the coordinating minister confirmed.

“The necessary funds have been secured, and disbursement to beneficiaries will commence soon,” he stated.
