Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold will not play in Thursday’s second leg of Liverpool’s Carabao Cup semi-final against Tottenham, according to manager Arne Slot.
After playing 70 minutes in Saturday’s Premier League victory over Bournemouth, Alexander-Arnold was replaced due to what appeared to be a thigh injury.
When they host the second game at Anfield, the Reds, who won the League Cup the previous season during Jurgen Klopp’s penultimate season as manager, will be looking to overcome a 1-0 deficit against Spurs.
“He [Alexander-Arnold] is going to miss the [Tottenham] game,” Slot stated referring to his team’s FA Cup fourth-round match against Plymouth on Sunday and their league away match against Everton on Wednesday.
“We don’t know if he can play on Sunday, but we do know that he won’t be available tomorrow. “He left the pitch with a bit of pain in his leg but he’s already on the [training] pitch, not with the team but with the rehab coach, so let’s see how long it is going to take.”
Conor Bradley, who took Alexander-Arnold’s place against Bournemouth, is expected to start the return match after starting the first leg at Tottenham on January 8; however, defender Joe Gomez is also a possibility after recovering from a hamstring injury.
Leading Premier League team Liverpool, who have advanced to the Champions League’s round of 16, did not make any signing during the January transfer window.
“I’ve said it many times, we have a very good squad and, if you look at the league table, the players have shown that the trust we have in them was correct,” Slot stated.”
“And, apart from Trent now for a few days, we didn’t have many long-term injuries in the moments when the window was open.”
