Kelechi Iheanacho is thrilled about his new challenge at Middlesbrough, he has not ruled out returning to Sevilla, claiming he has “unfinished business” with the Spanish team.

The Nigerian international joined Boro on loan until the end of the season after a challenging stint at Sevilla.

Despite his short stay in Andalusia, the former Leicester City forward has good memories of the team and is still open to the possibility of returning.

“I’m very excited to be here. It’s a wonderful place. I’m happy to be here,” Iheanacho said during his unveiling at Middlesbrough.”

However, he made it clear that Sevilla still holds a special place in his heart.

“It’s good to get out, to feel in a different environment. Sevilla is a great club. I’ve loved my experience there. It’s a great team, and I’ll be delighted to return there,” he added.

With the acquisition of fellow Nigerian Akor Adams from Montpellier and manager García Pimienta’s growing faith in Isaac Romero, Iheanacho found it difficult to get playing time at Sevilla.

“I am here now. I am focused on what I can achieve here. I can’t wait to get started. It’s a good club, and the Championship is a great league. We have a good team,” he said.

Middlesbrough boss Michael Carrick is confident Iheanacho’s quality and experience will be vital as the club pushes for promotion.

“We’re delighted to get Kelechi in. His quality is pretty obvious, and he knows what it takes to be successful at this level from last year. He played in the Premier League for a number of years. He’s a quality, quality player, and we’re really happy to have him,” Carrick told the Northern Echo.

Last summer, Iheanacho signed a two-year contract with a third-year option after joining Sevilla on a free transfer. 80% of his €2 million yearly pay will be paid by Middlesbrough, with extra bonuses in place if the team is promoted to the Premier League.
