165 suspected illegal immigrants have been detained by the Kebbi State Police Command and turned over to the Nigeria Immigration Service for additional examination and appropriate action.
Chief Superintendent of Police Nafiu Abubakar, the command spokesman, explained to the news reporters that Security personnel discovered more than 200 people residing in a three-bedroom flat in the Kuwaiti neighbourhood of Birnin Kebbi on January 31, 2025, at approximately 5:00 PM, which led to the arrest.
165 residents were successfully taken into custody by a squad of investigators from the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) when they searched the area.
According to preliminary investigations, all of the people detained were from Francophone West African nations, including Ivory Coast (110), Burkina Faso (35), Benin Republic (11), Niger Republic (5), and Mali (4).
He said that after preliminary investigations were completed, the Command sent the suspected illegal immigrants to the Nigeria Immigration Service, Kebbi State Command, for additional investigation and legal action.
In the meantime, the police urged citizens to report any suspicious activity in their communities and reassured the public of their commitment to upholding security and enforcing immigration laws.
