Interior Minister Probes Suspected Criminal Conduct At Delta Correctional Centre

A prompt and thorough inquiry into claims of criminal activity at the Okere Correctional Center in Warri, Delta State, has been mandated by Interior Minister Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.

According to PUNCH Online, the order comes after recent media reports revealed purported criminal activity occurring within the facility. In a statement released on Tuesday by his spokesperson, Babatunde Alao, the minister condemned the alleged violations and reiterated his zero-tolerance policy for misbehavior and indiscipline, promising harsh punishments for those found guilty.

“I refuse to let indiscipline fester beneath my nose. If an officer is determined to be incompetent, the entire force of the law will be applied. Tunji-Ojo said, “The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) leadership needs to give explanations.

The minister reaffirmed his dedication to honesty, openness, and responsibility while assuring the populace that the government is unwavering in its efforts to enforce discipline in the nation’s prisons.

He continued, “We take these accusations seriously and will not tolerate misconduct of any kind within our correctional facilities.” The public was also asked by the minister to provide any pertinent information that would help with the investigation.

The statement went on to say, “The minister encourages the public to submit any pertinent information that could help with the investigation.”
