The community is still demanding that Prince Oluyemi Ajayi’s nomination as Ido Ajegunle’s Olojudo be reversed, which is causing tensions in Esa Oke.

Ademola Adeleke, the governor of Osun State, has promised to form a commission to look into the recent violent riots that shook the town.

On Monday, the Esa-Oke Central Union accused attackers wearing police uniforms of breaking into the town, killing four inhabitants, and leaving numerous more injured.

The group attributed the violence to a non-indigenous person being imposed as king over a community in Esa Oke.

Regardless of their standing, the governor promised to look into the event thoroughly and up in bring those responsible to justice.

He said, “If you are not pleased, write your petition and bring it, I will act on it. There is no need for you to start fighting because I will do justice to it. I don’t want to declare a curfew, which is why I am here today to assess what is happening.

“We will form a panel of inquiry to look into the root cause of the crisis. Since I have known Esa Oke, it has been a very peaceful community.”

The community’s position was previously reaffirmed by Yinusa Bamigboye, Chairman of the Esa-Oke Central Union, who said that Ajayi’s appointment went against custom and endangered communal harmony.

Bamigboye demanded that Ajayi’s appointment be immediately revoked, cautioning that doing otherwise may further damage public confidence in the government.

“We respectfully demand the reversal of the government white paper that appointed Prince Timileyin Oluyemi Ajayi as the Olojudo of Ido Ajegunle.

“This action is necessary to restore the trust of the Esa Oke people in the government and to prevent further escalation of tensions.

“Additionally, we appeal for the unconditional release of our youths who were indiscriminately arrested during the recent crisis.

“The arrests were carried out with poor judgment, as they failed to identify those actually responsible for the destruction of properties.”
