
The Federal Executive Council, or FEC, declared Monday that N4.8 billion had been approved for HIV patient treatment.
The decision follows President Donald Trump’s recent proposal to halt financial aid to nations for HIV treatment, among other things.
At the conclusion of the Council meeting, which was chaired by President Bola Tinubu and held in the Council Chamber at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Minister of Health and Social Welfare Ali Pate made this revelation to State House media.
In order to guarantee that people with HIV are taken care of despite the assistance of partners, the Minister stated that the approval would be given in four months.
Regarding the recent US policy decision to stop providing help to nations dealing with HIV, TB, and other diseases, he stated that the government was aiming to change the health system through domestic funding.
According to him, a committee has been established to develop a sustainability strategy, and its members include the Nigeria Governors Forum, the Ministries of Finance, Budget, Defense, and Environment.
