German Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund has won the competition to recruit Carney Chukwuemeka, an Austrian-born Nigerian midfielder for Chelsea.
Barring any last-minute adjustments, the England youth international will be revealed as a new Borussia Dortmund player on Monday, February 3, the deadline day.
According to transfer market expert Fabrizio Romano, Borussia Dortmund and Chelsea have reached an agreement for Chukwuemeka’s loan signing, which includes a purchase clause.
The option to buy has been established at a greater price than the player’s release clause of 40 million euros.
The Austrian-English-Nigerian midfielder landed in Dortmund on Sunday night ahead of his physical, which is set for today.
Borussia Dortmund will pay Chelsea a loan fee and cover his wages through the end of the 2024-2025 season. The 8-time German winners have pulled off a major transfer coup by attracting Chukwuemeka to Dortmund, knocking out Chelsea’s sister club Strasbourg, AS Monaco, and two undisclosed Premier League clubs.
Chukwuemeka joined Chelsea from Aston Villa in the summer of 2022 and has scored two goals in 32 outings. After 20 matchdays and a fairly disappointing season, Borussia Dortmund is now in ninth place following their 2-1 victory over 1. FC Heidenheim on Saturday.
