The adolescent girl who was accused of using poisoned pepper soup to kill her boyfriend and four of his friends has spoken out after being found not guilty. Her photo was widely shared on social media.

After someone posted a picture of Edo State resident Aisha Suleiman on X and claimed she had poisoned five people—her fiance and four friends—she nearly got lynched in October 2024.

Despite not even being in the vicinity when the horrific event occurred, she was publically ridiculed and harassed by community members upon her return, who tied her up and prepared to burn her alive.

She would have died if authorities hadn’t stepped in.

Before being charged in court, she was ultimately taken into custody and arrested.

However, as human rights advocates became involved, the matter was thoroughly investigated, and it was found that the four boys and one girl had died as a result of breathing in generator fumes.

After being cleared, Aisha stated that she never prepared pepper soup for anyone.

She clarified that the conflict began when she broke up with her late ex-boyfriend and the late young man’s father forbade her from going to their home.

Aishat claimed that on that terrible day, when the incident occurred in Afashio, she was at Iyakpi when her ex-boyfriend and a few of his buddies perished.

Now, they are demanding that the friend of Aisha’s ex-boyfriend who set off the false alarm be prosecuted.
