The Peoples Democratic Party, or PDP, Governors Forum concluded its first 2025 monthly meeting in Asaba, the capital of Delta State, on Friday with a resolution supporting the Court of Appeal’s ruling that declared Hon. S.K.E. Udeh-Okoye, the party’s former National Youth Leader, to be the legitimate National Secretary of the PDP.
The NWC was advised to follow the court’s ruling. The Forum also recommended that the NWC move the party’s February National Executive Council (NEC) meeting to March 13, 2025.
This was even as the party rued the hardship in the land and called on the President Bola Tinubu-led All Progressives Congress, APC, Federal Government to revisit its macroeconomic policies to mitigate the sufferings of the Nigerian masses.
These were contained in a communique issued at the end of the meeting, which had in attendance the Chairman of the Forum and Governor of Bauchi State, Senator Bala Mohammed, Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State, Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State, Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State, Governor Diri Duoye of Bayelsa State, Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State, Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State, Governor Muftwang of Plateau State, Governor Agbu kefas of Taraba State, Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State, and the Deputy Governor of Oyo State, Barr. Bayo Lawal.
“The Forum used the occasion to review the performance of member states in particular, the state of the nation in general, as well as developments in the party, as at the end of 2024,” the Forum’s chairman said in a communiqué.
“The Meeting observed that the Federal Government’s macroeconomic policies had caused the polity to suffer.”
As a result, the Forum urges the Federal Government to either review or modify its macroeconomic policies in order to alleviate and halt the suffering that Nigerians have endured.
This is because no significant progress in the states will be possible until the harsh policies are addressed.”
“After reviewing all of the notices required by law to be given in order to legitimately convoke NEC, the Forum advised NWC to reschedule NEC to the thirteenth (13th) of March 2025.”
“The Forum noted with delight the ongoing efforts to resolve the crisis in the National Working Committee, NWC, on the position of the National Secretary, and has reaffirmed its support for the Court of Appeal judgment; consequently, the Forum advised the NWC to set up the machinery for the effective implementation of the court judgment.”
The Forum also asked for the nation’s security infrastructure to be strengthened and voiced concerns about what it saw as the resurgence of non-state actors.
It enjoined Nigerians not to despair over the hardship in the land, as it would soon return to power to fix the nation.
“The Forum viewed with great concern the resurgence of brazen non-state actors, while applauding the nation’s brave and patriotic Armed Forces and security agencies for keeping the frontline in securing the country and the victories of our gallant personnel against bandits in parts of the country.”
Thus, it demands that the country’s security framework be strengthened. With the resolute assurance that the PDP will continue to be dedicated to bringing our great country back to the glorious pre-2015 era of manageable living expenses, property and life security, and greater unity and prosperity for all citizens, the Forum urged Nigerians to not give up in the face of the current hardships, the communique continued.
“The Forum praised the governors of its member states “for pursuing policies and programs that were aimed at laying the groundwork for sustainable development in their respective states, in addition to improving the plight of the people.”
It praised Governor Oborevwori for the enormous progress his administration has made in Delta State’s infrastructure, environmental restoration, human empowerment, and fight against insecurity.
