AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, the governor of Kwara State, has given his approval for the state’s new and old legacy projects to be named after notable leaders and historical personalities. The multibillion-naira Civil Service Clinic project is being named in honor of Senator Oluremi Tinubu, the First Lady of Nigeria, who is at the top of the list.

The First Lady Tinubu will conduct the groundbreaking ceremony for the massive project as part of her official visit to Kwara State from January 28 to 30, 2025, according to a statement signed by Rafiu Ajakaye, the governor’s principal press secretary.

The president’s wife will also unveil a few legacy projects that the governor completed, including the Unity Flyover, the state-of-the-art Intensive Care Unit, the Executive Ward, and the General Tunde Idiagbon Flyover, which was previously named after the late military figure from the State. The ICT Center was constructed under the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) of her office at the Kwara State University of Education.

In remembrance of Nigeria’s previous prime minister, who was assassinated in the January 1966 military coup, the route leading to the flyover will henceforth be known as the Tafawa Balewa route.

In the meantime, the governor has given his approval for the ICT Center to be dedicated after Dr. Amina Ndalolo, the former minister of state for health, and for the executive ward at the Kwara State Teaching Hospital to be named after Dr. Amuda Aluko, the late well-known politician and physician.

In honor of the first military administrator of the former Kwara State, the first secretariat will henceforth be known as the Brigadier General David Bamigboye Secretariat. Meanwhile, the second secretariat will be named after Rear Admiral Muhammad Alabi Lawal, who oversaw the state from 1999 to 2003.

In recognition of his services to the state, the Kwara State Stadium Complex will henceforth be called the Major-General George Agbazika Innih Stadium Complex.

The stadium’s main bowl is named in honor of the late Super Eagles striker Rashidi Yekini, a football hero who is known for being the nation’s highest goal scorer to date and for scoring Nigeria’s first World Cup goal.

The governor also gave his approval for the following names to be applied to other significant state facilities: The Indoor Sports Hall is named after Gabriel Babatunde Ladipo, the first black principal of the Government Technical Training School Ilorin (GTTS), who was considered the state’s sports father; the Table Tennis Arena is named after Atanda Musa (Manza Musa), a 1979 national champion; KFA Academy is named after Coach Usuman Adenuja, the first football coach to lead the Kwara Academicals to the Academical football competition final; Squash Court is named after Coach Bolakale Mogaji, executive chairman of the Kwara State Sports Commission, who was the first squash coach, player, and national champion. One of his creations was the Governor.

The stadium’s hostels A, B, and C are named after Salihu Ishola, the first Kwaran Commonwealth Games medallist, Paralympic badminton bronze medallist, and Bola Esan, the first female director of sports, respectively.
