Controversial Nigerian social media personality Idris Okuneye, widely known as Bobrisky, has reaffirmed his gender transition and is set to host an opulent wedding ceremony.
This announcement comes amidst ongoing debates about gender identity and legal frameworks surrounding LGBTQ+ rights in Nigeria, where same-sex relationships are criminalized under the Same-Sex Marriage (Prohibition) Act of 2014.
In a recent social media post, Bobrisky addressed former U.S. President Donald Trump’s comments on gender identity, which suggested a binary understanding of gender.
Bobrisky said “I don’t have business with Trump. Trump said we only have two genders, right?, And I said I’m now a woman that has undergone everything.
If they ask for evidence, I will show them, simple,”-Bobrisky stated, highlighting his commitment to his identity despite external opinions.

This statement reflects a growing global conversation around gender identity, yet it starkly contrasts with the prevailing legal and cultural attitudes in Nigeria.
The country’s laws impose severe penalties for same-sex relationships, creating a challenging environment for individuals like Bobrisky who openly express their gender identity and sexual orientation.
Further embracing his feminine persona, Bobrisky shared details about his upcoming wedding, which promises to be a lavish affair spanning multiple international locations.
According to the self-proclaimed “bride,” the events will commence in Nigeria for the introduction ceremony, followed by an engagement in London, a white wedding in the United States, and a honeymoon in Greece.

While Bobrisky has not yet revealed the identity of the groom, he announced extravagant costs associated with the event, including an Aso Ebi (a traditional Nigerian attire) priced at N2 million for female guests and N1 million for male guests.
He/ She further cautioned that those unable to meet the financial demands should refrain from attending the festivities.
The juxtaposition of his plans against the backdrop of Nigeria’s stringent laws highlights the ongoing struggle for LGBTQ+ rights in the country, prompting conversations around acceptance, identity, and the fight for equality.
