Body Found Hanging on  Mango Tree Sparks Investigation

The Commissioner of Police has directed officers and men of the Command to intensify surveillance and bolster intelligence efforts in order to tackle crime and criminality in the state

The Anambra State Police Command has commenced an investigation into a disturbing incident involving the discovery of a lifeless body hanging from a mango tree in a bush in Amichi, located in the Nnewi South Local Government Area of the state.

According to a statement issued on Saturday, May 17, 2025, by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the body was discovered on May 16 following a call made to the deceased’s mobile phone by an unidentified individual, who then reported the tragic finding.

The State Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has ordered intensified surveillance and intelligence gathering across the state to uncover the circumstances surrounding the incident and to prevent similar occurrences.

“The Commissioner of Police has directed officers and men of the Command to intensify surveillance and bolster intelligence efforts in order to tackle crime and criminality in the state,” the statement read.

“He also tasked investigators with determining the full circumstances surrounding the discovery of the body found hanging from a mango tree in a bush in Amichi.”

The police have since identified the deceased, and the body has been deposited at a morgue. Efforts are underway to contact the victim’s family to assist in the ongoing investigation.

This latest case comes less than two weeks after a similar incident in which the body of a pregnant woman was found hanging from a tree in a forested area in Idemili South Local Government Area, sparking growing concerns among residents.

The Anambra State Police Command reiterated its commitment to uncovering the truth behind the incident and assured the public that all necessary measures are being taken to bring those responsible, if any, to justice.
