The Lagos State Government has sealed off DONALD restaurant, owned by Pascal Chibuike Okechukwu, also known as Cubana ChiefPriest in the highbrow Lekki area after two of its employees were caught dumping waste illegally along a public road.

The enforcement action, which took place in the early hours of Saturday, 18th May 2025, was confirmed by the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin.

In a statement posted on his official X (formerly Twitter) account, Gbadegesin explained that the operation was triggered by a tip-off from the Chairman of the Lekki Estate Residents Association (LERA), who reported suspicious activity involving a vehicle discharging refuse along Durosimi-Etti Street in Lekki Phase 1.

According to Gbadegesin, the perpetrators were caught red-handed while indiscriminately dumping waste from a white Ford van bearing Abuja registration number GWA 136E. Upon investigation, the vehicle was traced back to DONALD Restaurant, a prominent nightlife hotspot situated on Road 14 within the estate.

The LERA’s Chief Security Officer promptly intervened, apprehending the two suspects at the scene. They were then taken into custody at the LERA Secretariat. During the arrest, the suspects allegedly attempted to offer a ₦100,000 bribe to the estate security team in a bid to avoid consequences, but the offer was rejected.

Responding to the incident, LAWMA immediately dispatched its Monitoring and Compliance team to the scene. After verifying the violation, the team proceeded to seal off the premises of DONALD Restaurant for gross environmental misconduct, citing breaches of the Lagos State Environmental Management and Protection Law of 2017.

Dr. Gbadegesin emphasized that the agency is committed to upholding environmental standards and will not hesitate to take decisive action against offenders. He confirmed that the suspects will be prosecuted in accordance with state laws governing environmental infractions.

“LAWMA remains resolute in its commitment to enforcing environmental regulations across Lagos and urges all residents and businesses to adhere strictly to proper waste management practices. A clean and livable city is everyone’s responsibility,” he stated.

The incident has sparked renewed calls for stricter compliance among business operators in Lagos, especially those in hospitality and nightlife industries, to adopt responsible waste disposal practices to support the state’s sanitation goals.
