Katsina Hospital Attack: Bandits Request N540m Ransom on Kidnapped Staff

The sufferers who were kidnapped this week from a general hospital in Katsina State’s Kankara local government area are being held hostage by bandits for N540 million.

A doctor was shot and one other person was wounded in the hospital incident on Tuesday, January 21.

When the hospital was besieged by bandits and some of its employees were abducted, Dr. Murtala Sale Dandashire was shot.

One of the abducted victims is Yusuf Muhammad Mairuwa, who is the head of the hospital’s nursing department and an assistant director of nursing services.

The attackers had demanded a ransom of N270 million to free the nurse and another N270 million for the other hospital employees and some employees of a fertilizer factory who had been abducted near the hospital during the attack.

In a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Ibrahim Kaula Mohammed, Katsina State Governor Dikko Umaru Radda stated “We are restrategising our security approach to ensure that our medical professionals can perform their vital duties without fear.

“The safety of our healthcare workers and residents remains our paramount concern.
