In recognition of his remarkable contributions to the development of Ibadanland and the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII), the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Akinloye Owolabi Olakulehin, in collaboration with the CCII, will today confer the prestigious title of “The Most Outstanding Friend of Ibadan” on Prince Charles Ilelabayo Babarimisa, FCA, the Chief Executive Officer of I Flier 103.3 FM Ibadan and I Flier International School.
The award ceremony forms a major highlight of the 2025 Ibadan Cultural Festival, with the grand finale taking place today at the historic Obafemi Awolowo (Liberty) Stadium in Oke Ado, Ibadan. This was revealed in a joint statement issued by Alhaji Abiola Alli, Chairman of the CCII Ibadan Cultural Festival Planning Committee, and Chief Sulaimon Ajeniyi Ajewole, President General of CCII.
According to the CCII, the award is a token of appreciation for Prince Babarimisa’s unwavering support, selfless service, and passionate commitment to the growth and progress of both the council and Ibadanland. The statement noted that while it is common in Nigeria for individuals to be celebrated posthumously, the Ibadan community has chosen to honour Babarimisa in his lifetime, as a living legend whose efforts have not gone unnoticed.
The statement reads in part: “The award is in appreciation of Babarimisa’s immense contributions to the progress of the CCII and Ibadanland over the years. While many are often celebrated only after their demise, we in Ibadan have resolved to honour you now, as a way of inscribing your name permanently in the annals of our city’s rich history. You truly deserve this recognition for your relentless and selfless service to the CCII and Ibadanland. Your patriotic efforts are unforgettable, and we believe that as God continues to bless you, you will accomplish even more for our great city.”
In a show of solidarity and support, several individuals and organizations have extended their congratulations to Prince Babarimisa. Among them is the Igbajo Development Association (IDA), which lauded him for his steadfast dedication to community development and for promoting the welfare of Ibadan indigenes. The association expressed pride in his well-deserved honour, acknowledging his visible and impactful efforts across various sectors.
Similarly, Elder Olugboyega Adedeji, Principal of I Flier International School, commended Babarimisa’s exceptional leadership, describing him as a beacon of hope and a passionate advocate for the upliftment of humanity.
“We celebrate your outstanding leadership and tireless devotion to the wellbeing of Ibadan and humanity at large. This honour reflects the genuine impact you have made in the lives of many and the legacy you continue to build,” Adedeji remarked.
Echoing similar sentiments, Prince Adejare Amuda, General Manager of I Flier 103.3 FM Ibadan, praised Babarimisa for his visionary approach and the values he consistently upholds in both education and media, which have significantly influenced positive change in the region.
As the cultural festival culminates in celebration, the conferment of this prestigious title not only honours one man but serves as a symbol of Ibadan’s deep appreciation for excellence, service, and unwavering commitment to community upliftment.
