In a significant political twist ahead of the 2027 general elections, former Lagos State governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Abdul-Azeez Adediran, popularly known as Jandor, has pledged unwavering support for President Bola Tinubu’s second-term ambition, describing it as crucial to Nigeria’s progress.

Speaking during a high-energy rally in Ojo, Lagos State, on Friday, Jandor declared his full return to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and vowed to mobilize massive support for Tinubu’s re-election bid. The event, attended by grassroots supporters, party stakeholders, and former PDP loyalists, marked Jandor’s formal defection after resigning from the opposition party on March 3, 2025.

According to Jandor, Tinubu’s bold economic decisions, particularly the removal of fuel subsidies, reflect a selfless and visionary leadership style. “The decision to remove subsidy is not a politically convenient one. It’s a move that demonstrates Tinubu’s sincerity and commitment to Nigeria’s long-term prosperity,” he said.

“Ordinarily, a politician seeking re-election would avoid such unpopular reforms, but President Tinubu took the hard route. That is why we must do everything humanly possible to ensure he returns in 2027 to consolidate these reforms,” he added.

Jandor, who ran as the PDP’s flagbearer in the 2023 Lagos gubernatorial race, cited the transformational agenda of the Tinubu administration as the reason behind his political U-turn. He noted that Nigerians are beginning to see the fruits of the President’s policy choices, which include economic liberalization, increased foreign investment prospects, and institutional reforms.

He further emphasized that political loyalty must be anchored on performance, not party lines. “It’s no longer about opposition for the sake of opposition. It’s about who is delivering results. Tinubu has shown leadership, and we must support that,” Jandor stressed.

The former PDP candidate’s return to APC has sparked conversation within Lagos political circles, with some seeing it as a sign of the growing momentum within Tinubu’s camp ahead of the 2027 presidential race. His defection also comes amid a wave of internal wrangling and realignment in the PDP, particularly in the South-West.

Political analysts view Jandor’s move as strategic, given his influence among youth voters and grassroots structures in Lagos. His support could help strengthen the APC’s base in Nigeria’s commercial capital, where the party has faced stiff opposition in recent elections.

Jandor also used the occasion to urge fellow Nigerian youths to look beyond political sentiments and support leaders who show genuine intent to drive change. “Let’s move beyond noise and work with those who have the courage to fix this country. Tinubu is that leader,” he declared.

He dismissed speculations that the President may not seek re-election, stating categorically that Tinubu’s rising acceptance and the growing success of his reforms make a second term not only likely but necessary. “We are working with clarity of purpose. This man will return, and Nigeria will be better for it,” Jandor concluded.

Meanwhile, reactions have begun pouring in from across party lines. Some PDP members have criticized Jandor’s defection as betrayal, while others acknowledge it as a personal and ideological decision. APC chieftains in Lagos have welcomed his return, describing it as a “boost to party unity and national development.”

As Nigeria’s 2027 political season begins to take shape, Jandor’s shift signals that more defections and unexpected alliances may redefine the political landscape.
