Dotun Oyelade Welcomes New Members to PDP at Ogbomoso North LG Meeting, Urges Unity and Grassroots Mobilization

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogbomoso North Local Government Area received a major boost today as a significant number of members from the All Progressives Congress (APC) officially defected to the ruling party.

The event, which took place during the PDP’s general meeting for the local government, on May 15, was graced by several party stakeholders, including the Honourable Commissioner for Information, Oyo State, Prince Dotun Oyelade, and loyal party chieftain.

In his address, Dotun Oyelade described the occasion as a “homecoming” for the new entrants and a powerful testament to the growing appeal of the PDP in Oyo State. He noted that the wave of decampments was a reflection of Governor Seyi Makinde’s inclusive governance, infrastructural achievements, and people-centered leadership across the state.

“We are not just welcoming new members; we are consolidating our strength at the grassroots. This is a party built on the ideals of service, equity, and development. I commend our brothers and sisters who have made the bold move from the APC today—they have chosen progress over stagnation,” Oyelade said.

The meeting, held at the PDP Secretariat in Ogbomoso North, witnessed enthusiastic party faithful, community leaders, youth groups, and women’s wings, all celebrating the unity and renewed momentum within the party. The atmosphere was festive, with chants and songs affirming PDP’s dominance in the region.

Dotun Oyelade emphasized the need for continued grassroots engagement, urging party members to remain active, visible, and united in preparation for future electoral challenges. He called for the integration of the new members into party structures without discrimination, stating that every member—new or old—has a role to play in building a stronger and more cohesive PDP.

“Our strength lies in our unity and shared purpose,” he said. “As we prepare for future elections, we must ensure that every ward, every community, and every household hears the PDP message loud and clear.”

Speaking on behalf of the decampees, a former APC ward chairman expressed disappointment over what he described as broken promises, neglect of the grassroots, and internal divisions within the APC, which prompted their collective decision to join the PDP.

“We have watched the difference in leadership. Governor Makinde is leading with a sense of vision and compassion, and we are proud to align with that,” he said.

Oyelade concluded his remarks with a call to action, encouraging all PDP members to maintain discipline, loyalty, and commitment to the party’s ideals. He urged the party leadership to build on today’s success by enhancing local outreach and consolidating on Governor Makinde’s goodwill.
