Domestic Worker Allegedly Flees with N4 Million from Employer’s Bank Account, Manhunt Launched

A manhunt is currently underway for a domestic worker identified as Emmanuel John Simon, who is accused of stealing the sum of N4,000,000.00 from the bank account of his employer, Mrs. Oluwayose Olufunke. Emmanuel, who was employed to carry out domestic duties in the household, is now said to be on the run following the alleged theft.

The development was brought to public attention by Mr. Isaac Fayose, the son of the affected employer. Taking to his Facebook page on Thursday night, Fayose issued a passionate appeal to the public, urging anyone with useful information on Emmanuel’s whereabouts to assist the police in tracking him down.

In his post, Mr. Fayose disclosed that the theft involved the unauthorized withdrawal of four million naira from his mother’s Access Bank account. While the specific details surrounding the method of the theft and the date it occurred were not made public, he expressed his deep concern and frustration over the betrayal of trust by the domestic staff.

To further incentivize the public, Fayose announced a cash reward of N500,000.00 for anyone who helps the police in arresting the runaway suspect.

In his words he said, “This boy Emmanuel Simon stole 4 million naira from my mom’s account (Access Bank) and ran away since then… Please if you can help the police to arrest him, I will dash you 500k.”

The social media post included a photograph of the suspect, making it easier for members of the public to identify him and potentially assist law enforcement officers in locating him.

Although there has been no official statement from the police as of the time of this report, the appeal by Mr. Fayose has since gone viral across various social media platforms, with users expressing outrage over the incident and sharing the post widely in hopes of aiding the suspect’s apprehension.

Many commentators sympathized with Mrs. Olufunke, lamenting the growing cases of criminal activities perpetrated by individuals in positions of trust, especially within households. Others urged the family to press full charges once the suspect is caught, to serve as a deterrent to similar offenses.

This incident has once again sparked public discourse on the importance of thoroughly vetting domestic workers before employment.

Cases involving theft, assault, and other crimes committed by domestic staff have been on the rise, leading to calls for stricter regulations, background checks, and use of verified recruitment channels.

Mr. Fayose and his family are hopeful that with the assistance of concerned citizens and prompt action by law enforcement agencies, Emmanuel John Simon will be located and brought to justice. The public is encouraged to report any useful information to the nearest police station.
