Federal Government Reaffirms Commitment to Security with Launch of Smart Police Station in Abuja

The Federal Government has reiterated its commitment to improving internal security and enhancing service delivery at the grassroots with the commissioning of a cutting-edge smart police station in Katampe, Abuja.

Constructed by the Nigeria Police Trust Fund and officially handed over to the Nigeria Police Force on Wednesday, the modern facility is designed to enhance policing efficiency and foster stronger ties between law enforcement and the local community within the Federal Capital Territory.

In the coming days, similar smart police stations are slated for commissioning in Kogi, Enugu, and other states across the country, reflecting a broader national strategy for modernized, community-focused policing.

Speaking at the inauguration, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Police Affairs, Anuma Nla—representing the Minister of Police Affairs, Ibrahim Gaidam—described the initiative as a clear indication of the government’s unwavering dedication to law and order at the grassroots level.

“This facility symbolizes our collective resolve to institutionalize law and order, improve relations between the police and the public, and ensure that every Nigerian can live free from fear,” Nla said. “It stands as a beacon of hope, a pledge of protection, and a testament to the government’s focus on delivering effective services at the community level.”

He urged officers assigned to the station to maintain the highest levels of professionalism, integrity, and respect for human rights, emphasizing the importance of prompt, fair, and accountable policing.

Nla also reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to bolstering the operational capacity of the Nigeria Police Force, aligning with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

“This station is a tangible expression of our determination to ensure a safer, more secure Nigeria,” he added.

Highlighting the critical role of technology in modern policing, Nla called on the Inspector General of Police to deploy officers proficient in digital law enforcement to the smart facility.

Also speaking at the event, the Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Police Trust Fund, Mohammed Sheidu, characterized the project as a cornerstone of national development.

“This is more than just a police station—it is a symbol of our vision for secure, efficient, and community-centered policing, tailored to the evolving needs of contemporary Nigeria,” Sheidu stated.

The smart police station features advanced infrastructure including perimeter fencing, CCTV surveillance, overhead water tanks for constant supply, and a 30-kilowatt off-grid solar energy system—developed in partnership with the Rural Electrification Agency.

Sheidu also announced the commencement of a residential quarters project comprising six units for rank-and-file officers, aimed at improving the welfare and living conditions of police personnel.

“No officer should bear the demands of service while struggling with substandard accommodation. This initiative is a step towards boosting morale and ensuring our frontline personnel have the stability required to perform their duties with excellence,” he said.

Underscoring the importance of responsible resource utilization, Sheidu called on officers to uphold high standards in maintaining the facility, urging them to treat it with professionalism and pride.
