Ex-Convict Re-Arrested for Lagos Traffic Robbery, 3 Months After Release

In a swift and commendable operation, patrol officers attached to the Ketu Division of the Lagos State Police Command have apprehended a 28-year-old suspect, Olayinka Oluwaseyi, for attempting to rob a motorist on Mile 12 Bridge in the early hours of May 13, 2025.

The suspect, who was armed with two sharp knives, was intercepted around 1:30 a.m. during what could have escalated into a violent robbery.

According to official reports, the patrol team was conducting a routine surveillance operation when they noticed suspicious activity on the bridge.

Their prompt response led to the successful arrest of Olayinka before any harm could be inflicted on the victim. Another accomplice, believed to be involved in the attempted robbery, managed to flee the scene and is currently on the run. Police have since launched a manhunt to apprehend the fugitive.

Confirming the development to the press, the Lagos State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, revealed that preliminary investigations indicate the arrested suspect is a repeat offender.

Olayinka was reportedly released from prison just three months prior after serving time for a similar offense. His re-arrest so soon after his release underscores the challenge of recidivism and the importance of stringent monitoring and rehabilitation of ex-convicts.

Olayinka is currently in police custody and undergoing further interrogation. The Lagos State Police Command has assured that the suspect will be arraigned in court once investigations are concluded and all necessary evidence compiled.

In response to the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Olohundare Jimoh, lauded the quick action, vigilance, and professionalism exhibited by the officers of the Ketu Division.

He reaffirmed the command’s unwavering commitment to eradicating criminal activities within the state, particularly the growing concern of traffic-related robberies that often target unsuspecting motorists during early morning or late-night hours.

CP Jimoh also issued a stern warning to all criminal elements operating within the state, emphasizing that the command will not tolerate any act that threatens the peace and safety of law-abiding citizens.

He called on members of the public to remain security-conscious and proactive by promptly reporting any suspicious movements or persons to the nearest police station or emergency hotlines.

The Lagos State Police Command reiterated its pledge to continue collaborative efforts with communities to ensure that Lagos remains a safe and secure environment for all residents and visitors.
