Female Broadcaster, Bukola Agbakaizu, Passes Away While on Duty

Bukola Agbakaizu tragically slumped and died on Monday, May 13, 2024, while preparing for her afternoon shift at the state-owned television station

The Ogun State media community has been thrown into mourning following the sudden passing of veteran broadcast journalist, Mrs. Bukola Agbakaizu, a respected staff member of Ogun State Television (OGTV), Abeokuta.

Mrs. Agbakaizu tragically slumped and died on Monday, May 13, 2024, while preparing for her afternoon shift at the state-owned television station. Despite swift efforts to revive her, she was pronounced dead on arrival at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Abeokuta.

Her death was confirmed by the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ogun State Council, in a statement signed by the Council Secretary, Mr. Bunmi Adigun. According to the statement, “Bukola, a dedicated staff member of OGTV, tragically collapsed while preparing for her afternoon shift. Despite all efforts to save her, she passed away upon arrival at the hospital.”

A passionate and versatile journalist, Mrs. Agbakaizu was a former Vice Chairman of the OGTV NUJ Chapel and served as an ex-officio member of the NUJ Ogun State Council until her death. She was known for her unwavering dedication to the journalism profession and her commitment to the welfare of her colleagues.

“Her vibrant spirit and commitment to journalism will be sorely missed, leaving an irreplaceable void in our community,” Adigun added.

In response to her passing, the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Ogun State Chapter, also issued a condolence message signed by Chairperson, Mrs. Sekinat Salam.

“Ogun NAWOJ received the news of Mrs. Bukola Agbakaizu with a rude shock,” the statement read. “Her death came at a time when her experience and exemplary leadership were still greatly needed by the association.”

Salam further described her as a symbol of compassion, a committed media professional, and a dedicated member of both NUJ and NAWOJ. “Her compassion towards others, dedication, love, and passion for the pen profession will always be remembered and cherished.”

Born 52 years ago, Mrs. Agbakaizu is survived by two children, her aged mother, colleagues, and numerous friends and admirers.

The journalism fraternity in Ogun State and beyond will remember her as a dedicated, God-fearing, and selfless professional whose legacy will continue to inspire generations to come.
