Sunshine Stars Football Club has suspended player Suraju Ibrahim for making inappropriate remarks against the club and the Ondo State Government, as announced in a statement by the club’s media officer, Isaac Afolabi.
The suspension follows a viral video in which Ibrahim was seen criticizing his employers, prompting the club to launch an internal investigation to examine the circumstances of the incident. The club condemned the comments as contrary to its core values of discipline, respect, and professionalism.
“We do not intend to be unnecessarily harsh on any of our hardworking players,” the statement read, adding, “However, we will not tolerate any form of indiscipline from players whose actions do not reflect the values and intentions of the Owena Whales.”
The club emphasized that everyone associated with Sunshine Stars is expected to uphold its principles, particularly during challenging times.
The suspension comes on the heels of Sunshine Stars’ relegation from the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) after a 2-1 loss to Niger Tornadoes in Ijebu-Ode on Sunday.
