Carlo Ancelotti, one of football’s most decorated managers, has been appointed head coach of the Brazil national team, the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) announced today. The 65-year-old Italian will assume his role on May 26, following his departure from Real Madrid after their final La Liga match against Real Sociedad.

Ancelotti, who becomes Brazil’s first foreign men’s team coach, signed contracts after amicable negotiations facilitated by CBF representative Diego Fernandes.

His exit from Real Madrid, where he had one year left on his contract, was finalized following cordial discussions, as previously reported by The Athletic.

Tasked with leading Brazil’s 2026 World Cup qualification campaign, Ancelotti aims to secure a record-extending sixth title at the tournament hosted in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

He replaces Dorival Junior, sacked in March after 14 months in charge.

Ancelotti’s first match will be a World Cup qualifier against Ecuador on June 6.
