Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has admitted he may need to step down if the club’s dismal Premier League performance persists into the next season. The Red Devils suffered another blow with a 2-0 defeat to West Ham at Old Trafford, a team that had not won in their previous eight matches.
Amorim expressed deep concern about the club’s fading aura, stating, “We are losing the feeling that we are a massive club. It’s dangerous for a big club to lose the fear of defeat at home.” United’s form has been dire, with only victories against relegated Ipswich and Leicester since January 26, marking their joint-worst winless streak in the Premier League with seven games.
The manager called for introspection across the club, dismissing focus on the upcoming Europa League final. “The final is not the issue. We have bigger things to think about, like the culture in the club and the team,” Amorim said. “This is a decisive moment in the club’s history. We need to be brave in the summer, or we should give space to different people.”
United’s current 39 points place them 16th in the league, with only Tottenham and the three relegated teams below them. On a three-points-for-a-win basis, the club is on track for its worst points tally since the 1930-31 relegation season.
