Ogun Ogun State has entered a strategic partnership with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to host football matches, events, and programs aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s football economy and supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s New Hope agenda for a vibrant sports sector.

The agreement was formalized on Sunday during a courtesy visit by NFF President Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau and his delegation to Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, in Abeokuta.

Renowned for its serene environment and top-tier sporting infrastructure, Ogun State has a storied history of hosting major football events, including matches for Nigeria’s national teams, the 2009 FIFA U17 World Cup, and Confederation of African Football club competitions.

The state’s Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne-Remo, built by philanthropist Hon. Kunle Soname, recently hosted matches for the Super Falcons and the U17 Flamingos.

As part of the partnership, Ogun State will host two friendly matches between the Super Falcons and Cameroon’s Indomitable Lionesses. The first match is scheduled for May 31 at Remo Stars Stadium, with the second set for June 3 at the newly renovated MKO Abiola Sports Complex in Abeokuta. Additionally, the state will host the WAFU B U17 Boys Championship in September.

The announcement comes ahead of the 2025 National Sports Festival, which Ogun State will also host, underscoring its growing prominence in Nigerian and African sports.

The NFF delegation included Hon. Gbenga Elegbeleye, NFF 2nd Vice President and NPFL Chairman, and Executive Committee members Alhaji Ganiyu Majekodunmi, His Excellency Silas Agara, and Ms. Aisha Falode.
