The pensioners, while recalling the untoward hardships being faced by them due to the inability of the BCOS Management to pay them their only means of survival appealed to Governor Seyi Makinde to integrate them into the mainstream payment system in order to avert unfortunate incidences that may arise from lack of funds to attend to their needs.

An appeal has been made to Seyi Makinde, the Governor of Oyo State, by the Pensioners of Broadcasting Corporation of Oyo State (BCOS) regarding the payroll, which has been a subject of persistent and enormous concern.

The pensioners have expressed their dissatisfaction with the fact that they have not received their pension payment for the month of April, and they have also not been receiving the minimum wage that has been approved by the government since January.

Despite the government’s initiative to implement the minimum wage policy starting from January 2025, many employees continue to face financial hardships due to BCOS’s inability to provide worker welfare and timely salary disbursements.

A great number of retirees have expressed their annoyance to the government since they have been subjected to severe delays in receiving their benefits.

In a statement made available to IREPORT247NEW on May 3rd, Engineer Akinniyi Akinlabi, who had previously served as the Director of Engineering Services Broadcasting Corporation of Oyo State, pleaded with Governor Makinde to graciously solve the payroll difficulties that have been present.
The statement read, “Your Excellency, we humbly appeal to you to intervene in the matter of BCOS pensioners’ payroll, which has been a source of great concern. We kindly request that our payroll be integrated into the mainstream payroll system at the State Secretariat.

“Regrettably, our April pension has yet to be paid, and we have also not benefited from the government-approved minimum wage since January. We beseech you to kindly address these issues.

“We pray that the wisdom of Solomon and the blessings of the Almighty continue to guide you in your leadership.”

iREPORT247NEWS had reported a significant financial crisis has engulfed several parastatals under Makinde’s administration in Oyo State. Key organisations such as the Broadcasting Corporation of Oyo State (BCOS), the Oyo State Water Corporation, and the Polytechnic of Ibadan, among others, are grappling with severe financial distress, rendering them unable to fulfil their fundamental obligation to pay salaries to their employees.

The parastatals have been struggling to maintain operations amid this crisis, severely impacting their ability to uphold worker welfare and ensure timely salary disbursements.

The financial sustainability and revenue generation, the Broadcasting Corporation of Oyo State (BCOS), was established not only as a platform for disseminating information and news but also to operate as a profitable enterprise. However, it has increasingly relied on government financial support for its survival, which has raised concerns about its viability.

There are growing rumours that the state government is not prioritising BCOS regarding media patronage, opting instead to support private broadcasting stations. This has led to a perception that BCOS is being sidelined in favour of competitors, which further undermines its financial health.

This prolonged delay in salary payments has created an untenable situation for the employees, leading to extreme hardship for the workers and the thousands of dependents who rely on their income.

Workers in the impacted organization have made an appeal to Governor Seyi Makinde in the hopes that he will intervene and show compassion in order to improve their situation.
