I am glad I went to politics. And ask me, am I going to do it again? Oh, yes
Funke Akindele, an actress and director, has discussed the manner in which her political experience has been transforming.
In 2022, Funke was nominated by the People’s Democratic Party gubernatorial candidate, Abdul-Azeez Olajide Adediran, as the running mate for the 2023 Lagos state governorship election.
Akindele stated that her choice to run for the position of Lagos Deputy Governorship in the 2023 elections was motivated by a desire to give back to society and support others.
She made this statement while speaking at the #WithChude Live chat that was sponsored by media entrepreneur Chude Jideonwo. According to Akindele, she was able to acquire significant knowledge regarding leadership, government, and the development of the nation as a result of this tour.
She claims that she came to realize the significance of boldness, tenacity, and courage, as well as the fact that fear may be a limiting factor.
Akindele also highlighted the importance of knowledge, and she went to great lengths to establish the habit of reading extensively and supporting her points with data and figures.
As she reflected on her experience, Akindele expressed her thanks for the lessons she had learnt and made a passing reference to the possibility of returning to politics.
Akindele said, “I need to support others, I need to give back. That is why I went to politics. Getting into it, seeing the violence, seeing the shouting, then I started watching female politicians, you know, the way they speak, and the way they command respect and authority. And I’m like, hey, you can do it.
“I stood, I spoke, I learnt that from there, that you have to be bold, you have to be courageous, you have to be strong, what will be will be, fear will only put you in a place.
“So all this I learnt from doing politics. And I got to know a lot of numbers, I got educated more, acquire more knowledge, you know, I’m reading more now, knowing more about my country, knowing more about my state.
“When I want to speak, I’ll speak with the statistics, you understand, with the data. So I am glad I went to politics. And ask me, am I going to do it again? Oh, yes.”
