President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is scheduled to undertake a one-day working visit to Katsina State on Friday, May 2, 2025, in a move that underscores his administration’s commitment to infrastructure development and agricultural revitalization in northern Nigeria. This visit will mark the President’s first official trip to Katsina since his inauguration in May 2023.

The announcement was made by Katsina State’s Commissioner for Information, Bala Salisu-Zango, during a press briefing on Wednesday. He confirmed that President Tinubu’s itinerary includes the commissioning of two flagship projects initiated and completed under the leadership of Governor Dikko Umar Radda.

The highlight of the visit will be the formal commissioning of the Eastern Bypass, a strategic road project that stretches from Dutsin-ma Road and cuts across Kano and Daura roads before terminating at Yandaki in Kaita Local Government Area. This bypass is expected to ease intra-city traffic, boost trade logistics, and improve connectivity between major local government areas and border towns in the state.

In addition, President Tinubu will unveil the newly established Agricultural Mechanisation Centre, a state-of-the-art facility designed to enhance mechanized farming in Katsina. This center aims to strengthen the agricultural value chain, promote food security, and provide modern tools and training to local farmers—thereby increasing productivity and reducing post-harvest losses.

Beyond infrastructural development, the visit also holds significant political and security relevance. Katsina, like many North-Western states, has been grappling with rising insecurity marked by banditry and kidnappings. Commissioner Salisu-Zango noted that the President’s visit offers an opportunity for direct engagement on pressing security issues affecting rural communities.

“Security remains a key concern for our people,” the commissioner stated. “President Tinubu’s presence here will allow for honest dialogue on how best to enhance collaboration between the federal and state governments in addressing these challenges.”

Sources within the state government revealed that high-level meetings with security chiefs and traditional leaders are also expected to take place during the visit.

As preparations intensify ahead of the visit, the Katsina State Government has called on residents to come out en masse to welcome the President and demonstrate solidarity with the administration’s development agenda. Salisu-Zango emphasized the need for peaceful conduct and public cooperation during the visit, assuring that adequate security arrangements are in place.

“The visit of President Tinubu is not only a milestone for our state but a reaffirmation of federal support for Katsina’s development,” the commissioner added.

Tinubu’s visit comes at a time when national conversations around security, economic diversification, and equitable development are intensifying. With the 2027 general elections looming in the political horizon, observers see this trip as part of a broader strategy to consolidate support in the North-West, a region that played a crucial role in Tinubu’s electoral victory.

Katsina, the home state of former President Muhammadu Buhari, remains a politically strategic region for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). The successful execution and commissioning of infrastructure projects are likely to resonate positively with the electorate, especially in rural communities long deprived of modern amenities.

President Tinubu’s one-day working visit to Katsina is poised to leave a lasting impact on the state’s infrastructure and agricultural sectors. It also signals a renewed focus on security cooperation and economic development across Nigeria’s northern corridor. As the President continues his nationwide tour to assess and support state-level projects, Katsina stands out as a model of synergy between federal and state governments in driving tangible change.
