Federal lawmaker representing Eket/Onna/Esit-Eket/Ibeno Federal Constituency, Hon. Okpolupm Etteh, has applauded Governor Umo Eno’s public endorsement of President Bola Tinubu and Senate President Godswill Akpabio, describing the move as bold, patriotic, and reflective of a deeper vision for Akwa Ibom’s sustainable development.

Governor Eno, a member of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), made headlines last week when he openly declared support for Tinubu’s re-election bid during the flag-off of a 65-kilometre three-lane dual carriageway in Nsit-Antai Local Government Area. Speaking at the event, the governor assured the president of continued support from Akwa Ibom, stating, “He deserves to complete his eight years in office. He cannot start this work and abandon it.”

Etteh, a PDP chieftain himself, hailed the governor’s stance as a courageous and strategic alignment with the central government that places the interests of the people above political affiliation.

In a personally signed statement made available to journalists in Uyo on Wednesday, Etteh described Eno’s support for the Tinubu administration as “a deliberate and visionary step that transcends party lines.”

“Governor Eno’s endorsement is a courageous move that reflects a deep commitment to peace, unity, and sustainable development in Akwa Ibom State,” Etteh said.

He noted that Eno’s gesture is a bold statement of political maturity and an indication that governance, especially in critical times, must rise above party allegiance for the greater good of the people.

Collaboration with Tinubu, Akpabio Vital to Akwa Ibom’s Progress

Etteh emphasized the strategic importance of aligning with the Tinubu-led federal government, highlighting that such synergy could unlock immense opportunities in infrastructure, education, healthcare, and economic development.

“Your statesmanship sends a strong message of maturity in governance and deep concern for the welfare of our citizens,” he added.

Etteh also acknowledged the significance of Governor Eno’s inclusive political posture, particularly his acknowledgment of Senator Godswill Akpabio, an indigene of the state and current President of the Nigerian Senate.

“Your support for Senator Akpabio is not only symbolic but a reaffirmation of the value of homegrown leadership and collective responsibility,” Etteh noted.

The lawmaker pledged his continued support and collaboration with Governor Eno in advancing development efforts in Akwa Ibom State. He described the current political climate in the state as a rare opportunity for leaders to work together—across party lines—for the common good of the people.

“I pledge my unwavering solidarity with Governor Eno as we work together to secure a brighter future for Akwa Ibom State,” he concluded.

Political observers have praised Governor Eno’s recent overtures as a significant shift in Nigeria’s political culture, where opposition leaders are increasingly acknowledging the need for national unity and pragmatic governance. The governor’s stance is expected to strengthen the state’s relationship with the federal government, especially as Akwa Ibom plays host to vital oil and gas infrastructure central to Nigeria’s economy.
