The Nigeria National League (NNL) has expelled 1472 FC from the ongoing 2024/2025 season due to their failure to honor three league fixtures. The Lagos-based club, established in October 2023 by businessman Dozy Mmobuosi, has also been fined ₦5,000,000.

The NNL stated that 1472 FC failed to comply with Article 14:11 of the league’s codified rules, which stipulates penalties for clubs that fail to honor matches. The league alleged that 1472 FC was found guilty of missing three staggered league matches in Conference A, prompting the invocation of the relevant disciplinary provisions.

NNL Chief Operating Officer, Danlami Alanana, expressed disappointment at the club’s conduct, saying, “It is an embarrassing situation. Their action is simply a breach of the rule book and we have to apply the rules to the letter. It is unfortunate that despite several warnings, 1472 just wouldn’t heed.”

As a result of the expulsion, all matches involving 1472 FC have been annulled, and points previously awarded for or against the club have been cancelled. The changes have been reflected in the updated NNL Conference A table, effective from matchday 16.

Alanana added, “This disciplinary action serves as a stern reminder of the league’s commitment to upholding professionalism and integrity within Nigerian football.” The NNL’s decision to expel 1472 FC sends a strong message to other clubs about the importance of adhering to the league’s rules and regulations.

The expulsion of 1472 FC is a significant development in the NNL, and it remains to be seen how the club will respond to the decision. For now, the focus will be on the remaining teams in the league as they battle it out for promotion to the top tier of Nigerian football.
