Tyson Fury has reignited speculation about a potential return to boxing after posting a cryptic message on social media. The 36-year-old former world heavyweight champion shared a 12-second video of himself training with SugarHill Steward, sparking rumors of a possible showdown with Anthony Joshua.
In the video, Fury says, “Just in the gym. Bumped into someone you might know.” He then pans around to show Steward, who smiles and says, “You know what time is it.” Fury looks directly into the camera and delivers his message, “You know what’s coming.”
This development comes after Fury announced his retirement from boxing in January, following his second successive loss to Oleksandr Usyk in December. However, many boxing insiders remained skeptical about his intentions, given his history of short-lived retirements.
Matchroom Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn questioned the legitimacy of Fury’s retirement, suggesting it was a ploy to increase the financial value of a potential mega-fight with Joshua. A September date has been rumored for the Fury-Joshua showdown, with Saudi boxing chief Turki Alalshikh reportedly keen to make the contest happen.
Meanwhile, Anthony Joshua has also returned to training after recovering from surgery following his knockout loss to Daniel Dubois last September. Joshua shared a heartfelt message on Instagram, thanking Nigeria for their “energy, generosity, and kindness” during his rehabilitation stint in the country.
Joshua’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, revealed that the 35-year-old is entering what could be his final year in professional boxing. “This is the final year. Let’s not beat around the bush,” Hearn told Sky Sports. “He’s going to have somewhere between – it could always be your last fight – but one and three fights, that’s the reality of the situation.”
A potential Fury-Joshua fight could generate significant revenue, with estimates suggesting upwards of £170m from broadcasting rights, ticket sales, sponsorships, and merchandise. The long-awaited contest has been a topic of discussion among boxing fans, and Fury’s recent training video has only added to the speculation.
