Plans to provide license plates that specifically recognize people with disabilities have been finalized by the Lagos State Number Plate Production Authority (LSNPPA).
This was said by Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, the state commissioner for transportation, during the 2025 ministerial press briefing in Lagos on Tuesday, which was held to commemorate the second year of Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu‘s second term in office.
In his statement, Osiyemi remarked that the project was consistent with the inclusiveness goals of the Sanwo-Olu administration’s THEMES Plus Agenda. From May 2024 to March 2025, the commissioner reported that LSNPPA generated 218,400 standard number plates for commercial and private cars.
The LSNPPA, according to Osiyemi, was the state government’s manufacturing arm; it was also in charge of making license plates for cars in Lagos State.
In line with the state’s infrastructural and aesthetic development goals, the authority has grown to encompass manufacture of aluminum-based road furniture in the past twenty years, he said.
“The authority is also into the production of customised 716 fancy motor vehicle plates and 347 motorcycle fancy plates for vehicle owners, on request.
“The authority issued 11,152 standard number plate replacements, 212 motorcycle plate replacements, and 63 standard fancy replacements to maintain accurate vehicle identification.
“They also produced 428 official number plates, 1,510 dealer plates and 4,000 articulated vehicle plates.”
In a statement, Osiyemi stated that the authority was working together with the Federal Road Safety Corps to establish measures that would eventually result in the creation of number plates that would be in line with the Go Green efforts.
About the fact that number plates fade over time, he stated that the state used high-quality materials in the production of its plate numbers.
“We should also understand that fading of number plate is a function of the kind of material we use to wash our cars which are very corrosive.
“We should also know that man has a life span. So also are plate numbers, and they should be changed when the need arises,” he said.
