Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has made significant strides in various areas, particularly infrastructure development.

His initiatives include the reconstruction of major highways. They also encompass the enhancement of public facilities such as hospitals and schools. These efforts have improved road networks and elevated the quality of public services available to residents. His commitment to progress is evident in the numerous projects launched across the state to foster economic growth. The projects also aim to improve residents’ quality of life. Examples include the ongoing development of the circular road and recreational areas to promote community engagement.

However, a critical area where the Governor’s administration has fallen short is revitalising the Broadcasting Corporation of Oyo State (BCOS). Under the current leadership, BCOS has experienced a noticeable decline in its broadcasting standards. Its technological capabilities have also diminished. As a result, it is unable to effectively fulfil its role as a media leader. Numerous experienced staff members have resigned. They departed due to growing dissatisfaction with management practices. The deteriorating working conditions further contributed to their decision to leave.

BCOS

Staff welfare at BCOS has significantly declined, with employees expressing deep uncertainty about their status as workers for Oyo State. This has left many feeling undervalued and contributed to low organisational morale. The ongoing frustrations have made it difficult for the station to operate effectively. Additionally, a lack of adequate support and technological resources hinders its ability to serve its audience.

Moreover, what was once a pioneering broadcasting station now struggles with even basic operational tasks. Maintaining its website remains a persistent challenge, hindering its ability to engage with the audience and promote local content. To exacerbate the situation, many staff members have experienced chronic delays in receiving their wages, leading to financial distress that further erodes trust in the station’s leadership. This combination of factors seriously threatens BCOS’s future viability and significantly diminishes its potential role as a key player in Oyo State’s media landscape.

Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration continues to prioritise infrastructure and economic development, the situation at BCOS serves as a pressing reminder of the need for a balanced approach that ensures all sectors, including media, receive the attention and resources necessary for sustainable growth.
