The Sole Administrator’s activities have set Rivers State on a keg of gunpowder, and I weep for my state

Uche Secondus, a former PDP national chairman, has urged President Bola Tinubu to reinstate Siminalayi Fubara, the governor of Rivers State who is now suspended from office.

Secondus claims that Rivers State is on the brink of civil unrest due to the actions of the Sole Administrator. He claimed that one man’s control of the state’s resources had put Rivers State in the darkest corner of its history.

In an Easter message released on Sunday through his Special Adviser on Media, Ike Abonyi, the PDP chieftain made the call.

According to Secondus, the activities of the Rivers Sole Administrator, Ibok-Ete Ibas, have set the state on a keg of gunpowder.

The statement read, “The President should be guided by the voice of reason by restoring Governor Similaya Fubara, who has the mandate of the people.

“The Sole Administrator’s activities have set Rivers State on a keg of gunpowder, and I weep for my state. Sadly, Rivers State has found itself on the ugly side of history over the control of Resources and the state by one man.

“My special appreciation goes to the Ijaw nation, its leaders and people, the indisputable fourth largest ethnic group in Nigeria with over 30 LGAs across seven states, for managing the provocations.

“Easter period reminds us of brotherly love, peaceful co-existence, tolerance, honesty, humility, justice, equity and fairness to all without discrimination as contained in the Scriptures.”

This comes only a few days after the Ad-Hoc Committee on Rivers State oversight extended an invitation to Ibas to appear before it for an interactive session concerning the affairs of the state.

Recall that on Tuesday March 18, President Bola Tinubu announced a state of emergency in Rivers state due to the political crises and instability that has been plaguing the state.

Additionally, Tinubu placed Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy, Ngozi Odu, and other members of the Rivers assembly, under suspension for a term of six months.

Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas, who had previously served as Chief of Naval Staff, was also appointed by Tinubu to serve as the sole administrator for a period of six months.

On Thursday, March 20, the National Assembly adopted the proclamation and gave it its final approval.
