West African Boxing Union champion, Raheem “Badoo” Animashaun, will defend his Super Flyweight title against Beninois opponent, Jean Coffi, at GOtv Boxing Night 33 on April 26 at the Molade Okoya-Thomas Indoor Sports Hall of the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Lagos. The 17-year-old sensation became the youngest-ever WABU champion at GOtv Boxing Night 32 and will look to retain his title in what promises to be an explosive continental clash.
Animashaun’s journey to the top has been inspiring, with his father, Jamiu Animashaun, introducing him to boxing as a potential path out of financial challenges. The elder Animashaun, who also serves as his son’s trainer, fought in two editions of GOtv Boxing Night himself. “Badoo” has not only claimed the WABU belt but also walked away with the N1 million cash prize attached to the Mojisola Ogunsanya Memorial Trophy.
While establishing himself as one of Nigeria’s brightest boxing prospects, Animashaun has also gained admission to study Law at the University of Lagos. “My academic pursuit is part of a long-term plan to build a stable future beyond sports and to better understand how systems work,” he shared. Animashaun’s story has become a symbol of hope and ambition for many Nigerian youths, especially those who feel forced to choose between education and sport.
As GOtv Boxing Night 33 approaches, all eyes will be on “Badoo” as he represents a new generation of Nigerian athletes. The event is organized by Flykite Productions and sponsored by GOtv Nigeria. With his discipline and determination, Animashaun is poised to make a lasting impact in the world of boxing.
The teenage pugilist’s ability to pursue both his academic and sporting ambitions is a testament to his dedication and perseverance. As he steps into the ring against Coffi, Animashaun will look to prove himself once again and cement his position as one of the most promising young boxers in Nigeria.
