In preparation for a peaceful and crime-free Easter celebration, the Lagos State Police Command has intensified security across the state through the deployment of tactical and conventional security operatives. This move is part of a proactive security strategy aimed at safeguarding lives and property during the holiday season.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, in a statement issued by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, revealed that the massive deployment includes elite tactical units such as the Police Mobile Force, Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) squad, Counter-Terrorism Unit, Special Protection Unit, K9 squad, and mounted troops.
Key flashpoints and strategic locations across Lagos are currently being manned to prevent any form of criminal activity. The commissioner noted that special focus is being placed on churches, celebration grounds, motor parks, recreational centres, markets, and other venues expected to attract large crowds.
“This operation is not only to deter criminal elements but to eliminate the fear of crime from the minds of Lagosians,” the statement read.
Jimoh stressed that the patrol teams will operate both day and night throughout the Easter period and beyond. The deployment also includes patrol vans and armoured personnel carriers to support rapid emergency response.
In addition to police deployment, CP Jimoh confirmed close collaboration with sister security agencies, including the Nigerian Army, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Lagos State Neighborhood Safety Corps, and the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA).
“This multi-agency approach will ensure comprehensive coverage of the state and reinforce our goal of maintaining law and order throughout the Easter celebration,” he said.
While urging his officers to remain professional, courteous, and respectful of citizens’ rights, CP Jimoh emphasized the importance of maintaining high standards of conduct while remaining firm in enforcing the law.
“We are not just securing places; we are securing people’s confidence in the system. Officers must ensure respect for fundamental human rights while protecting lives and property,” Jimoh stated.
The police command also called on members of the public to be vigilant and security-conscious during the festive period. Residents are urged to promptly report suspicious movements or activities to the nearest police station or through the Lagos State Command Complaint Response Unit.
“Community involvement remains vital in maintaining public safety. The people must work with us. When you see something unusual, say something,” CP Jimoh advised.
The commissioner further appealed to parents and guardians to monitor their children and wards, warning against any conduct that may lead to disturbances or confrontations with law enforcement.
As part of the command’s goodwill, CP Jimoh extended heartfelt Easter greetings to all Christian faithful across Lagos.
“On behalf of the men and officers of the Lagos Police Command, I wish all Christians and indeed all Lagosians a peaceful, joyful and love-filled Easter celebration. Let us reflect on the values of sacrifice, hope, and unity which Easter represents,” he said.
As Lagos prepares for one of the busiest festive weekends of the year, the assurance of heightened security and inter-agency collaboration provides a comforting signal to residents and visitors alike. With robust deployment, increased vigilance, and community cooperation, the Lagos State Police Command has reinforced its readiness to ensure that Easter 2025 remains safe and incident-free.
