Terrorists have launched a renewed offensive targeting key infrastructure in Borno State

In Borno State, a new round of attacks targeting key infrastructure has been initiated by groups that are suspected of being terrorists. The primary target of these attacks has been bridges, which have been destroyed.

Eons Intelligence, a security and intelligence platform, published information on Wednesday through its verified X handle that suggested the fresh onslaught was meant to limit military operations and make mobility extremely difficult in the impacted areas.

Manda Fuma bridge near Biu was the first target of the reported strike; the bridge is located on a key corridor for military and civilian traffic.

“Terrorists have launched a renewed offensive targeting key infrastructure in Borno State, with bridges being the primary focus. The first verified instance involves the Manda Fuma bridge near Biu.

Additional reports suggest that the bridge in Alaramma has also been destroyed, along with the one connecting the Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Wajiroko to Sabon Gari.”

Just four days ago, at least eight passengers were killed and eleven others critically injured on Saturday April 12, when a commercial bus traveling along the volatile Maiduguri-Damboa Road in Borno State struck an improvised explosive device (IED) suspected to have been planted by Boko Haram terrorists

The tragic incident occurred around 11:45 a.m. at Komala village in Konduga Local Government Area, a region known for sporadic attacks and insurgent activities. The explosion completely destroyed the bus, leaving mangled wreckage and traumatized survivors in its wake.

In a swift response to the tragedy, Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, visited the injured victims at the State Specialist Hospital in Maiduguri on Saturday evening.

The governor expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives and assured the affected families of government support. He reiterated the state’s commitment to working with federal security agencies to eliminate the threat of insurgency.

“This incident is deeply unfortunate. We have intensified discussions with service chiefs and other national security stakeholders. Their renewed commitment to tackling the resurgence of Boko Haram is reassuring,” Governor Zulum said during his visit.
