We will soon receive some chieftains of the ruling APC and major opposition PDP into SDP
Over 6,000 new members have been registered with the Katsina State chapter of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in only one month. This represents a huge boost for the party as political realignments continue to take place throughout the state.
According to Alhaji Bello Adamu-Safana, the state SDP chairman, who made the announcement in Katsina on Tuesday April 15, many prominent figures from both the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are considering defecting to the SDP due to its increasing popularity.
“We will soon receive some chieftains of the ruling APC and major opposition PDP into SDP. Groups and individuals are coming into our party from these two parties and other platform,” he added.
Individuals and organizations that are building rival structures under the name of the SDP without official backing have been issued a stern warning by Adamu-Safana. He emphasised that behavior of this nature is unlawful and may result in legal repercussions.
“We want to caution some individuals and groups that keep forming structures in the state in the name of SDP. This is very wrong.
It is not coming from the party unless you are a party member, and the party allows you to form a structure. It is illegal, null and void… and the extent of the law can be used to prosecute whoever does that.”
IREPORT247NEW reports that Adewole Adebayo, the presidential candidate for the Social Democratic Party in the election of 2023, revealed that his counterpart from the Labour Party, Peter Obi, is planning to join the Social Democratic Party, following in the footsteps of Nasir El-Rufai, the former governor of Kaduna State.
While speaking on Politics TV program on April 6, Adewole said, “People are joining my party and we are welcoming them. You can see how active I am in welcoming them. The only little issue we have with some of them is to change the culture where if you have not been in an environment where rules are taken seriously.
“Some of them are doing some Boy Scouts, black market operations, we are dealing with that. But we welcome them into the party.
“All these people you have mentioned, El-Rufai, Atiku Abubakar, even former Governor Peter Obi are coming. A lot of people are coming and we will welcome them.”
However, the claims that Peter Obi is intending to leave the party have been refuted.
During the National Executive Council (NEC) meeting that is now taking place in Abuja, Obi provided this clarification on behalf of the party members.
Peter Obi said, “I’ve not told anybody that I’m leaving the Labour Party.”
Regarding his exit from the Labour Party, Obi has indicated that he has not engaged in any conversations with any personal or collective entity.
It was highlighted by him that any choices about the future of the party will be taken in.
