Manchester United are reportedly monitoring the situation of Bayer Leverkusen striker Patrik Schick, with the Premier League club considering him as a potential signing. According to Sky Germany’s Patrick Berger, United have made initial contact with Leverkusen, but nothing concrete has been discussed so far.

“Manchester United are monitoring the situation of Bayer Leverkusen striker Patrik Schick. Man Utd are in the market for a No.9 and prefer a younger profile – but Schick is also considered interesting. Initial contact was made, but nothing concrete so far. One of many names on the list,” Berger revealed.

Berger shed light on the potential transfer fee, stating that Leverkusen would demand €25m-€30m (£21.4m-£25.7m) for Schick, who is under contract until 2027. Interestingly, Schick prefers a move to the Premier League over the lucrative offers from Saudi Arabia.

“Leverkusen would demand €25m-€30m (£21.4m-£25.7m) for Schick who is under contract until 2027. The Premier League is Schick’s preferred destination. Despite interest from Saudi clubs, a move to the Middle East is currently not an option,” Berger added.

United’s interest in Schick comes as they seek to bolster their attacking options. The club has been exploring moves for several strikers, including Viktor Gyokeres, Benjamin Sesko, and Victor Osimhen. However, Liam Delap of Ipswich Town currently tops United’s shortlist, with a release clause worth £40m that could drop to £30m in the event of relegation.

With Ipswich facing relegation struggles, Delap’s potential transfer fee might decrease. Meanwhile, Schick, at 29, would be a short-term solution compared to Delap’s longer-term potential at 22. United’s pursuit of a new striker is driven by their lack of goals, a problem that manager Ruben Amorim believes is the team’s biggest issue.

As United navigate the transfer market, their priority is finding a reliable goal-scorer to strengthen their squad. Whether they opt for Schick or Delap, the addition of a quality striker could significantly impact their performance.
