Real Madrid and Croatia midfielder Luka Modric has become a co-owner and investor in Swansea City, the Championship club announced. The 39-year-old Ballon d’Or winner, who has spent 13 seasons with Real Madrid, expressed excitement about using his knowledge to help the Welsh club grow.

“This is an exciting opportunity,” Modric said. “Swansea has a strong identity, an incredible fanbase, and the ambition to compete at the highest level. Playing at the highest level, I believe I can provide my experience to the club. My goal is to support the club’s growth in a positive way and to help build an exciting future.”

Modric’s immediate focus remains on Real Madrid’s Champions League quarter-final second leg against Arsenal on Wednesday, where his team trails 3-0 after the first leg. His contract at Real Madrid is set to expire at the end of the season.

Swansea chief executive Tom Gorringe welcomed Modric on board, saying, “I am excited that Luka has come on board as an investor and co-owner. There is no better role model in the game for our players, from the academy right through to the first team.”

Modric’s investment in Swansea follows fellow footballers Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Junior, who have also invested in Ligue 2 outfit Caen and Portuguese side FC Alverca, respectively. Currently, Swansea sits 12th in the Championship, and Modric’s involvement could bring a new level of excitement and ambition to the club.

His commitment to supporting the club’s growth and building an exciting future is a positive sign for the team’s prospects. With Modric on board, Swansea City fans can look forward to an exciting future for their team.
