Mohammed Naziru, a three-year-old boy, was allegedly kidnapped by a woman who pretended to be ignorant in order to avoid answering questions regarding the incident.
Last Friday, January 10, in the Iwaya neighborhood of Lagos, Naziru and his eight-year-old sister were making their way back from the mosque following prayer when the incident occurred.
In order to blend in with the Muslim women at the mosque for Jumat prayer, the suspect allegedly wore a headscarf.
She allegedly paid Naziru’s sister N500 so she could buy N150 worth of ice cream, and she kept Naziru while the girl went to get it.
The woman had vanished with Naziru by the time his sister returned.
Naziru was not located despite a search being done around the community.
Naziru’s sister raised the alarm on Monday, January 13, 2024, after spotting a woman in the neighborhood and recognizing her as the one who reportedly abducted Naziru.
When the suspect tried to escape, a mob caught her and allegedly beat her.
The suspect was taken to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) by Sabo Division police officers when they interfered.
The woman allegedly pretended to be mentally sick at the SCID in order to avoid disclosing Naziru’s location.
Alhaji Idris Adamu, the boy’s father, bemoaned the fact that the woman had not disclosed the location of the trip she took his son on.
In order to find the truth and save Naziru, he urged investigators to step up their efforts.
In the meantime, SCID investigators revealed that they intended to transport the woman to a mental health facility in order to determine her mental condition.
