Nigerian candidates would face new visa interviews requirement starting April 22, 2025, according to the US Embassy. On Friday, April 11, the U.S. mission stated that all applicants for interviews at its Abuja and Lagos offices must show a DS-160 visa application form with a confirmation barcode starting with “AA” followed by two zeroes.

This barcode must match the interview booking barcode. The embassy requires a matching DS-160 barcode to enter the Consular Section and participate in the visa interview.

To ensure uniformity between the DS-160 form and appointment details, the embassy advised candidates to verify their information two weeks before their interview.

Additional information provided by the embassy indicated that DS-160 forms from previous applications cannot be reused.

In the situation that applicants find a barcode that is inaccurate, they are obliged to log into their AVITS account at least ten days prior to the interview and write a support ticket requesting that the barcode be corrected.

In addition to this, applicants are need to make certain that their scheduled interview appointment is scheduled at the same place stated in the DS-160 form.

The individuals who are rejected due to the fact that their information does not match will be expected to remedy the problem and reschedule their interview accordingly.

If the initial visa fee has already beyond its expiration date by the time the rescheduling is being done, a new payment might be required.

Additionally, as part of the revised procedure for applying for a visa, all applicants have been obliged to make two separate appearances at the United States Consulate General in Lagos since January 1, 2025.

It was highlighted by the embassy that these steps are intended to simplify the application process and ensure that documentation is consistent through their implementation.
