The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has declared the withdrawal of Right of Occupancy (R of O) for multiple plot allottees and title holders in Maitama II, Cadastral Zone A10, Abuja.

This action, set to take effect on January 15, 2025, is due to the failure of the listed individuals to pay their outstanding Certificate of Occupancy (C of O) fees, despite a grace period previously offered by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

In a public announcement made on Thursday, the FCTA stated that this decision aligns with Section 28 of the Land Use Act of 1978, which grants the government the authority to revoke land rights for violations of grant conditions.

The FCTA clarified that those who make their payments by the January 15, 2025, deadline will not be impacted by this decision.

The announcement included a list of 568 individuals whose titles have been revoked, featuring prominent politicians and public figures. Notable names on the list include Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen; Governors Duoye Diri of Bayelsa and Hope Odidika Uzodimma of Imo; Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Nkiruka Chidubem Onyejeocha; Senator Shehu Sani; former Governor Chimaroke Nnamani; and other significant political figures.

The FCTA emphasized that this action reflects its dedication to enforcing compliance with land allocation terms and ensuring accountability in the management of land resources within the Federal Capital Territory.Maitama II is recognized as a high-value real estate area in Abuja.

The FCTA aims for this withdrawal of land rights to serve as a strong warning to defaulters while potentially creating opportunities for other developers or residents to access the reclaimed properties.

The administration has urged the public to be aware of the revocation and cautioned against engaging in transactions related to the affected plots.

It also called on stakeholders to fulfill their obligations promptly to prevent similar consequences in the future.
