Oyo State Police Command has apprehended nine suspects for the murder of an elderly woman and arson
In connection with the murder of an elderly woman named Madam Rachael Bamidele and the damage of properties valued at millions of naira in the Aagba village located inside the Surulere Local Government Area, the Oyo State Police Command has apprehended nine suspects from the incident.
With a statement released on Thursday, the Public Relations Officer, SP Adewale Osifeso, stated that the incident took place on April 5, 2025, following a violent attack that was allegedly carried out by individuals from a neighboring village over land dispute that had been going on for a long time.
The attack resulted in the killing of Madam Bamidele as well as the burning and looting of nine houses, which resulted in a significant number of inhabitants being forced to abandon their homes.
According to reports, victims were targeted because of their participation in the ongoing civil action regarding the ownership of the contested land.
In reaction to the situation, the Commissioner of Police, Chief Commissioner Johnson Adenola, promptly dispatched intelligence and tactical units, which included police from the PMF, in order to restore order.
As a result of their timely response, residents who had been displaced were able to safely return to their homes.
Salawudeen Ismaila, a resident of the Oko village who is 33 years old, is one of the suspects that was apprehended.
In addition, throughout the course of the inquiry, the police found three Boxer motorcycles that were not registered. The search for more individuals who are still at large is currently ongoing.
