Flood Resilience: Focusing on Communities’ Preparedness and Adaptive Strategies for Flood Management

The Annual Flood Outlook (AFO) for the year 2025 is scheduled to be presented by the Federal Government on Thursday.

This document will provide an overview of probable high-risk locations around the country as the rainy season begins.

Umar Ibrahim Mohammed, who is the Director General of the Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency (NIHSA), made the announcement in a statement that was released in Abuja.

In his statement, he mentioned that the forecast will be presented by Professor Joseph Utsev, who is the Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation.

The forecast will cover anticipated flood patterns as well as regions that may be at a high risk. The purpose of the prediction is to assist stakeholders and local communities in preparing for and mitigating the effects of flooding, which has become an ongoing problem in many regions of Nigeria.

It was underlined by Mohammed that the AFO is an essential instrument for making informed decisions and responding in a proactive manner.

He said, “The 2025 AFO will highlight anticipated flood scenarios with a focus on flood preparedness, early warning systems, and community-level adaptation strategies.

“It provides data-driven, scientifically backed, and evidence-based information that supports proactive planning and response across sectors.”
